Botox $s up at end of 2009! Keep your prices up!

According to a survey done by MEDACorp, plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures were up during the fourth quarter for the first time since the downturn began in 2007.

The survey encompassed facial injectibles, breast implants, laser procedures and Latisse for eyelash growth. The results of the survey indicate that procedures for botulinum toxins like Allergan’s (AGN) Botox and facial fillers like Medicis Pharmaceutical’s (MRX) Restylane increased the most year over year in the fourth quarter of 2009, each up 8.1%. Procedures for breast implants increased 3.5%, and laser work was up 1.6%.

Allergan’s Latisse for eyelash growth, which is the only product currently in this category, wasn’t included in the year-over-year comparison because it just received approval from the FDA in 2009. The survey showed that prescriptions for the drug began to slow during the fourth quarter of 2009, but direct sales of the drug to consumers continued to grow; six states currently require prescriptions for Latisse.

Results from the survey, which has been conducted since the beginning of 2007, showed that all of these procedures were occurring less often year over year beginning in the third quarter of 2008, while breast-implant procedures had begun to decline as early as the first quarter of 2008.

  • I’ve used Latisse for 8 weeks and totally noticed results. My daughter said my lashes were so long they looked like spiders I guess that’s a good thing? The medspa I go to is a total ripoff trying to charge $120 a bottle. I found a place to order online for $12.50 + shipping. Here’s where I bought it http://bit.ly/latisse Same stuff just the generic version. They also have Retin-A for like $5 a tube for the good Retin-A micro stuff. I can’t believe the Dr’s offices try to rip people off by charging soooooo much for a little tiny bottle of solution!
